A Grand Island Rural Firefighter who has served the department and the local community for 50 years was honored Tuesday at the Hall County Administration Building.
Don Khotz was honored by the Board of Supervisors for sacrificing much of his time to help those in need.
KRGI News spoke with Khotz after his award ceremony and he says he shares the honor with his wife and his family.
Grand Island Rural Fire Chief Chuck Hoffman says Kohtz's contributions to the department have helped pave the way for future generations.
Chairwoman Pam Lancaster presented a golden axe to Khotz and thanked him for his years of service. Khotz first started his firefighting career in York before coming to Hall County as a volunteer.
