It may be seen as a housekeeping measure before the Nebraska Legislature – but the Committee to Keep the Veteran's Home in Grand Island sees Friday's Legislative action as a key step in seeing that a new veteran's home is built in Central Nebraska.
The Legislature adopted a bill with intent language directed at funding for the $47 million state share of the $120 million project.
The Legislature also approved language in regards to the site selection process for the new veteran's home.
The original language would have allowed the selection process to proceed behind closed doors. The Committee to Keep the Veteran's Home in Grand Island worked diligently with the legislature for transparency in the selection process.
The Legislature is moving forward with the language that the selection process be conducted in an open – public manner.
