In order to try to cut down on crime in the city, the Grand Island Police Department has created a new crime prevention unit, with a familiar name heading it up.
Officer Butch Hurst will serve as the Crime Prevention Officer. Some of his duties include working with Crimestoppers to solve crimes, targeting high crime rates and other various activities.
Hurst spoke with KRGI News and he says while the department uses the latest tools to gather information, city residents are still the most valuable resource.
Hurst says anyone with any information or concerns about crime in the area can contact Grand Island Police or Crimestoppers.
