Grand Island City Finance Director Jaye Monter is fighting the charges against her...pursuing a jury trial to clear her name and hiring a high-profile attorney to help her cause.
Monter waived her preliminary hearing in Hall County Court Wednesday and pleaded not guilty. Monter has also hired Clarence Mock, the attorney who represented Arkangelo Kot last year in a murder trial.
Monter faces five charges, including driving under the influence, operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest and reckless driving.
The Hall County Sherriff's Office told KRGI News last month that a deputy witnessed Monter driving a Kia Sorento rear end the back of a vehicle near Highway 2 on O'Flannagan Street in early June.
The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver would not stop. About 10 minutes later, the car was spotted in Cairo and Monter was taken into custody by the State Patrol.
Monter was taken to the Hall County Jail and later released on her own recognizance. Her pre-trial hearing is scheduled for September 19th.
