Suspicious fire destroys softball storage facility

Grand Island fire crews were called out in the pre-dawn hours this (Wednesday) morning to battle a suspicious fire at a warehouse. Fire Division Chief Tim Hiemer said the call at 3:45 this morning was to a warehouse used by the Central Nebraska Girls Softball Association’s synergy program for storage. He said the cause is as yet undetermined but due to the point of origin has been listed suspicious.  Hiemer said the 30’ X 60” structure at 721 West Oklahoma was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. He said part of the structure collapsed as fire crews battled the blaze which hampered their efforts to put the fire out.

Hiemer said no one was in the warehouse at the time of the fire – no firefighters were injured battling the blaze.
