A series of explosions and resulting fire near the 4500 block of Juergen Road damaged a bay and part of the building at Bosselman Tank and Trailer south of Grand Island.
Grand Island Firefighters raced to the scene as a large plume of smoke could be seen from miles away. When firefighters arrived, smoke and flames shot out of the roof where the tank was stored.
Grand Island Fire Division Chief Tim Heimer tells KRGI News that his first priority was to make sure it was safe for his fellow firefighters to go into the structure.
Heimer says, "What goes through my mind is I hope it doesn't take the building down with it. Luckily, I was the first one here. My crew wasn't on scene yet. We decided since we had some explosions we were going to use the big hose line to make a quick knockdown because I didn't want to put anyone in harms way for very long."
Heimer says the fire started about 5:15 yesterday evening and was under control after a short time later. A gas tank as well as other flammables was inside the bay.
Heimer also says no one was hurt and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
