Central City Residents Push School Board For Answers

4-26-13 - CC Meeting

Central City residents are no closer to answers about why the former football coach was relieved of his position, but still allowed to teach for the school district.

The Central City School Board went into closed executive session for almost 5 hours last night, to discuss and review its procedures in regards to its contractual relations.

Many people stayed well past midnight, including some Central City students that had school this morning to get answers as to why Darin Garfield was relieved as the football coach.

Central City resident Sue Paup was at the meeting and she says the community is torn.

Many Central City High School students also defended Garfield...even wearing T-shirts that said #TeamGarfield.

Central City Freshman Jeremiah Dickinson says all he wants are straight answers from the board.

School Board Vice President Lisa Wagner says while she understands the passion in the community, the board must follow its process for the good of the district.

The board went into executive session at around 8:00PM and didn't come out until 12:50AM – almost 5 hours later. No issues were resolved and the next school board meeting is next Wednesday.
